Virtual Capacity Building Training on Donkey Skin Trade
Addressing the emerging crime trends on Wildlife crime through the donkey skin trade which facilitates illegal Wildlife trafficking and addressing information gap, RB Harare in collaboration with the Donkey Sanctuary coordinated a capacity building training on donkey skin trade and how it facilitates the trafficking of wildlife and associated crimes. Training was meant to un-earth the criminal activities taking place during the trade of donkey skins and subsequently to improve Investigators skills, competencies and capacity in the investigation of wildlife trafficking amongst others.
INTERPOL RB Harare in collaboration with the Donkey Sanctuary coordinated a capacity building training on donkey skin trade and how it facilitates the trafficking of wildlife and associated crimes, virtually on 26 March 2024. The overarching aim of the training was to introduce law enforcement agencies to the Global Trade in donkey skin trade and how it facilitates the trafficking of Wildlife and associated crimes. The training demonstrated how CITES listed wildlife and products is often shipped with donkey skins through the containerized cargo which is the main transport for donkey skins. To address the global transport of donkey skins, the meeting highlighted the need for transport sector to be aware of the impacts ,risks, red flags, trading routes and guidelines associated with the trade. The training was attended by 76 participants (48 males and 28 females) from 13 Member states drawn from the Police Services/Forces, Seaports officials and Wildlife Departments in Southern Africa region.
