Africa’s Candidate for the Post of INTERPOL Secretary General - 2024
Mr. Mubita NAWA, Deputy Police Commissioner
Zambia Police Service
Born on 12th September 1977 in Mongu Town of Western Province of the Republic of Zambia, and later joining the Zambia Police Service at an early age of 17, Mr. NAWA had a very exciting and unique career path as a police officer.
The most exciting part of it has been the opportunity to serve in various international jurisdictions under the auspices of the United Nations, starting with Kosovo in 2005, where he rose to the position of Advisor to the Kosovo Police Station 4 Commander in the capital Pristina, and later nominated as part of the 33 UN global police experts to support the AU mission in Darfur (UNAMID) under the Light Support Package through the development of the Joint Mission Analysis Cell (JMAC) and Joint Operations Cell (JOC) bringing together the Military, Police and Civilian components.
Importantly, Mr. NAWA headed INTERPOL’s Regional Bureau for Southern Africa from 2015 to 2021. This is a senior management position in the hierarchy of INTERPOL, which helped him to gain valuable insights in all matters related to international police cooperation and the policing dynamics at operational, strategic and managerial levels.
The exposure he has gained locally and internationally has given him an understanding of the INTERPOL member countries’ unique policing challenges and aspirations and, therefore, feels the time is ripe for him to utilize his knowledge and expertise at the highest level of INTERPOL.
Mr. NAWA's candidature for the post of INTERPOL Secretary General has been presented by the Government of the Republic of Zambia, supported by the Southern Africa Development Community (SADC) at regional level and endorsed by the African Union (AU).
Join us in wishing Mr. Mubita NAWA best of luck!
